The MLB is Back
Last week the 2026 Major League Baseball season began. I couldn’t be more excited about this year!
Last season was a pretty disappointing year for Mets fans. The season started with high hopes. We had a great, well-rounded team on paper. We had won a bidding war with the Yankees for superstar Juan Soto, signing him to the most expensive sports contract ever. We thought this would finally be our year after a few promising seasons. Despite the early season hype, the year ended in disaster for the squad.
The Mets started off the 2025 season hot, earning a league-best record of 45-24 by June 12th. Then they collapsed. Big time.
Last season was tough one, but there were bright moments, especially in some late season games when we were still in the wild-card chase. And a personal bright spot, a late May game I attended in person, which was my first ever time visiting Citi Field!
Speaking of the Mets game I went to last year, it was a lot of fun! We took the trek from Manhattan all the way to Queens to see the team face off against the LA Dodgers.
May ’25—before things fell apart.
The game got stopped due to rain around the 4th inning. The stoppage led to an NBA jumbotron viewing party. What were we watching? None other than my Knicks vs. Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals. We caught almost the entire game, a Knicks loss, due to the rain. I got to see the Knicks win at a bar filled with fellow fans a few days later... a really cool moment I might write about down the line.
Back to the game... we got to the train station for our return home sometime after 1am due to the rain delay. At the station I met a fellow fan who goes to games often. We had a great chat on the train about fans being too impatient with Juan Soto's slow start at the time, trash talked the Yankees a bit, and had an overall great conversation. It was a great night. All said, I was very happy to be back in the hotel room once we got back!
But enough about 2025. The point is that baseball is back, and the Mets are really rocking! I've watched every game thanks to my brand, spankin' new MLB TV membership! It was tricky selling myself on the idea of paying to watch games I usually would find free streams for. But who wants to spend months having to constantly chase down the rapidly shifting "X" button on porn ads that generate every 5 seconds, just to save ~$150 bucks (a fraction of what you'd be paying the NBA or NFL). Plus I got a deal through my credit card company, so I paid closer to $100 in total.
It's March 30th and the Mets have gotten off to a great 2-1 start! It's a bit early to make predictions. But already this Mets squad has:
- Led off with an explosive 11-7 win on opening day
- Shown life late in the next two games, a sore spot throughout the last season
- Had solid pitching, and flashes on defense
I think we've got reason to get our hopes up.
Well, I have to go. The Mets start a new series against the Cardinals in an hour. World Series here we (hopefully) come!
